Our Hobby

At Jaram Associates we have a strong belief in work-life balance. It is partly why owner Douglas set up the company in the first place. I always found that no matter how hard you worked and how good the results were in private consultancy, the bar would just be raised every year forcing you to work ridiculous hours. So when Jaram Associates was set up, a good work-life balance was essential.

Douglas has had various hobbies over the years, including Motorcycles, Waterskiing, Snow Skiing, and even DJ-ing, but the one that has remained a firm favorite is cycling. There are various forms of cycling, and my chosen format is Gravel biking. This is like a cross between Mountain Biking and road biking. The emphasis is to go long distances on easier trails on a dropped-bar bike with lower gearing.

Together with co-founder Graeme, who has his own graphic design consultancy Burton Creative, Douglas founded Gravel & Co. This is a new forward-thinking club mainly for gravel riders who have a distance in mind. Douglas and Graeme felt they had outgrown local road clubs that were too race-focused. We put on rides most weekends, but in the Spring/Summer we also do events called Gravel Sportives all over the country.
